Maritime Museum, National Museums Liverpool

National Museum Liverpool’s Maritime Museum provides visitors with a fascinating insight into Liverpool’s seafaring past and life at sea, as well as its global importance as a centre of trade and migration. It has a wealth of nationally significant collections that are brought vividly to life through the many stories of people from all sections of society. It does not shy away from interpretation of sensitive issues, in particular its references to the transatlantic slave trade and impactful programmes about the port as a centre for the drugs trade. The museum has a skilled and enthusiastic learning team who benefit from the expertise of the wider learning and participation staff who together work closely with local authority and cultural partnerships, to ensure the Maritime Museum’s programmes and resources for learners are effective, current and relevant. The Waterfront Transformation Project is set to build on this success.
