🎒Creating sensory backpacks for families with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)

Wednesday 4 June, 10am - 12.30pm | Tickets from £5 - £40

Do you want to help families with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) get more from a visit to your museum? Join Kids in Museums to learn why sensory backpacks are a great way to support SEND families during a visit. These resources don’t cost a lot to create, and they can make a powerful difference to a SEND family’s visit. Their economic impact, promoting a longer dwell time and potentially greater spend in the museum, pays back an initial investment quickly. This session will be led by SEND in Museums Consultant Sam Bowen.

🧠 Young people, mental health and museums

Tuesday 8 July 2025, 10am - 12.30pm | Tickets from £5 - £40

What role can museums play in supporting the mental health and wellbeing of young people aged 16-25? Statistics show that unfortunately the proportion of 8-25s experiencing mental health problems is increasing. NHS data shows about 20% of 8-25 year olds had a mental health problem in 2023. In this session Kids in Museums will explore how museums can support young people to maintain good mental health and a positive sense of wellbeing.
